About the site:
I've written this whole site by hand coding rather than a WYSIWYG type program like Frontpage or one of the Macromedia suite in an attempt to learn HTML, XHTML, cascading style sheets, PHP, perl/CGI, and even to become more proficient with my text editor of choice - Vim.
The blog pages' coding was written completely by me in PHP. Basically I wanted only the "recent" news to appear there, so I chose the last 3 blog entries to automatically get included. The calendar body code started out as a basic calendar I read in "PHP for the World Wide Web" by Larry Ullman but I have hacked it greatly from it's original form to allow changing days, months, or years, to highlight today's date so it stands out, and to provide links to blog entries if they exist.
You will notice I have a lot of links to Wikipedia for definitions and so on. That's because I am lazy, and I figure that site will provide a far better explanation of something than I will be able to.
While writing these pages I've checked their appearance using Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Opera graphical web browsers and also Elinks text web browser. If you're using some other web browser,
let me know if you see any problems. My apologies for not checking the pages'
appearance in more browsers, but according to browser
statistics Internet Explorer and Firefox are by far the most popular (both
of them cover about 90% of the market). I am aware the some of the icons I use
with transparent backgrounds don't render correctly with Internet Explorer 6.
They do with Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox. I don't see that as a problem
with my web pages, but rather it's that browser's fault. ![]()
